Understanding Salt Consumption
Water softeners consume salt during the **regeneration process**. Salt is not used to soften the water directly, but to wash away (regenerate) the hardness minerals that have bound to the cation resin exchange sites. The amount of salt consumed depends on:
Resin Capacity: Larger tanks require more salt per cycle. A standard regeneration dosage requires approximately 150 grams of NaCl per liter of resin.
